That Place
Monday’s post “Isolation” set some records for this site. The comments and feedback extended the discussion. Most people, whether in recovery or not, know the urge to isolate. For those recovering from addiction or alcoholism, spending time alone or in the pursuit of creativity is helpful. But then we get hooked on the cure, and getting hooked on anything is dangerous.
This paradox sparked a poem, and I have the #RecoveryPosse to thank for the inspiration. Thank you.
That Place
We all keep that place
where we won’t go again,
except in remembrance
to help a needy friend.
It has an entrance.
The threshold sealed
with a new beginning.
The pain we feel
upon returning
is only worth
its weight in learning
that we don’t want
to go back there.
We journey far
to keep it near.
Dude?
this is everything ?

Thank you of sharing this message and reminder.
I’m going to let this one resonate!
Love this poem! It has depth. It’s smooth. Recently, I received a call from an old friend. He was struggling, so we talked, and it took me right back. Just caught wind he checked into treatment. A rare victory, well worth the encounter to “That Place.”
Thanks so much for that comment! Needs everything that people can relate to find something valuable in it. And you nailed it man, that’s why we keep that place. So we don’t have to ever go back.
Nice job, the ending esp.
Thank you!
